Telehealth Initial Assessments
Begin the Assessment Process Sooner
Where clinically acceptable and with the consent of a client’s family, Journey ABA offers the option to complete a child’s initial assessment through telehealth where in-person BCBA availability is limited. This option allows families to begin the assessment process sooner rather than waiting for an in-person assessment to become available.
Once the initial assessment is completed and your child’s treatment plan is approved by insurance, ABA services begin in person with a Behavior Technician (BT).
What Is a Telehealth Initial Assessment?
Every child begins services at Journey ABA with an initial assessment completed by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). During this assessment, the BCBA develops your child’s individualized treatment plan and determines appropriate goals for ABA services.
What Happens After the Assessment?
After the initial assessment is completed and the treatment plan is approved by your insurance, your child’s ABA services begin in person with a Behavior Technician.
The BCBA continues overseeing your child’s treatment throughout services. Families also have the option to continue BCBA supervision through either:
- Telehealth only, or
- A hybrid model with occasional in-person visits, including parent or caregiver training
Benefits of a Telehealth Assessment
Choosing a telehealth assessment may:
- Allow families to begin the assessment process sooner
- Reduce delays in areas where in-person BCBA availability is limited
- Provide greater scheduling flexibility
- Allow in-person ABA services to begin sooner once the assessment and insurance approval process are complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my child’s ABA therapy be virtual?
No. ABA services are always provided in person by a Behavior Technician. Telehealth is only an option for the initial BCBA assessment and, if preferred, ongoing BCBA supervision of the Behavior Technician.
Is telehealth available for every family?
Telehealth availability depends on insurance approval and clinical appropriateness. Our team is happy to discuss whether this option is available for your family.
