What Is Applied Behavior Analysis?
ABA is an evidence-based approach to treating some of the symptoms of ASD. This therapy involves using scientific principles proven to increase positive behaviors while simultaneously decreasing behaviors that are destructive or dangerous. Our BCBA-led team is experienced at helping clients who are dealing with more severe challenging behaviors that may interfere with daily life, and our long-term approach allows us to work with clients from their diagnosis until they graduate from school or our ABA program.
We use ABA therapy to help clients reach their goals in a variety of areas, including:
- Communication skills – we help our clients learn both verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
- Social skills – we help our clients practice the skills they learn during therapy in real-world situations with peers to enhance social relationships.
- Academic skills – we help with a variety of school readiness and teaching strategies to help children prepare for success in the classroom.
Each of our BCBAs has received graduate training in ABA, including supervised experience working under an experienced BCBA, and has passed a national certification exam in the field of ABA.
What to Expect in ABA Therapy Sessions
During ABA therapy sessions, your loved one will participate in a variety of activities to help them learn essential life skills and reduce challenging behaviors. We make having fun a priority, too—we’re committed to making every client’s experience a positive one. Whether you’re participating in in-home, telehealth, or hybrid ABA services, you can expect our team to work to meet our clients’ clinical goals and generalize new skills into the places where our clients live, work, and play.
Functional Behavioral Assessment
Our BCBAs use a variety of best-practice protocols for conducting a comprehensive assessment at the start of ABA services. The FBA includes a review of relevant clinical records, interviews with caregivers to gather relevant developmental history and family concerns, completion of questionnaires and surveys, as well as direct observation of behavior at home and other settings. The results of the FBA, which includes input from both the client and other family members, are synthesized by the BCBA to determine a set of clinical goals that will help each client thrive.
Customized Behavior Support Plans
Our trained clinicians have extensive experience in the design, implementation, and management of ABA treatment programs. Through ongoing data collection and analysis, we can target various behaviors and use our objective, data-driven approach to help guide your child to long-term success.
ABA Interventions
Our BCBAs and BTs may use a number of techniques, including environmental changes, reinforcement, shaping, fading, and instructional strategies to help increase our clients’ adaptive behaviors and decrease interfering behaviors. Our team collects data throughout ABA sessions to help guide the development and modification of the BSP to ensure our clients make consistent progress towards their long-term goals.
